Life Science Education With Augmented Reality

Augmented Reality (AR) has revolutionized the way we interact with the world around us, and its potential in education is immense. Through the development of hands-on Learning Labs and the integration of AR experiences, together Greater Good Consultants and Skills21 provided high school science teachers and students with innovative and engaging learning opportunities. Skills21 ARX Learning Labs

The Skills21 ARX project offers a collection of Learning Labs that leverage augmented reality to enhance science education. These Learning Labs are designed to be ready-to-use and easy to implement, providing teachers with valuable resources to engage their students in high-level science topics. The Learning Labs cover a range of subjects, including DNA transcription and translation, human body systems, and climate impacts. Each Learning Lab incorporates interactive AR experiences that bring abstract concepts to life, making learning more tangible and immersive.

Research Study and Teacher Involvement

During the 2022-2023 academic year, Skills21 conducted a research study using the Learning Labs developed as part of the ARX project. Connecticut high school science teachers received a $500 stipend for their involvement. This research study gathered valuable insights into the effectiveness of AR in science education and further refine the Learning Labs for optimal learning outcomes (see image above for a summary of the data).

Immersive Learning Package In Action

As part of the Immersive Learning Package, GGC played a crucial role in the project’s success. Funded by a National Science Foundation grant, GGC managed various aspects of the project including instructional design, curriculum development, curricular framework development, project management, scripting, collaboration calls, quality assurance and testing, educator guide creation, and more. Our comprehensive approach ensured the creation of high-quality AR-powered units aligned with educational standards.
